1930's Frank Tenney Johnson Memorial Art Exhibition Pamphlet

  • $ 18500

Very rare pamphlet from the 1939 Frank Tenney Johnson Memorial Art Exhibition. The art exhibition was from Nov 1st to Nov 30th 1939 in the Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles. The exhibition was of 31 pieces of Frank Tenney Johnsons work from 1874 - 1939. Johnson and his good friend Clyde Forsythe actually founded the Biltmore Art Gallery at the Biltmore Hotel.

The booklet includes a biography of Frank, a list of the paintings on show at the exhibition and a summary of a couple of the better known pieces.

At the peak of his career, tragedy was to strike Frank Tenney Johnson. One night in December of 1938, he attended a party and in the course of the evening kissed a woman. That night the artist contracted spinal meningitis and died the following day, January 1, 1939. The woman he kissed at the party died two weeks later from the same disease.

This was acquired from one of the original estate trustees of Frank Tenney Johnsons nephew around 30 years ago along with several other personal effects which will be listed accordingly.

A great addition to your Frank Tenney Johnson collection.
