1920's Decorative Bronze Clad Beatrice Bookends by the Armor Bronze Co

Vintage pair of decorative bookends. Unique pair of bronze clad plaster bookends of Beatrice made by the Armor Bronze Co. Each Beatrice retains its original polychrome paint, one as a blond in a pink dress and the other as a raven haired beauty in a blue dress. These were most likely originally paired with their male counterparts, Dante manufactured by the same company. Dating to the 1920's these vintage bookends have the Armor bronze foundry mark on the back as well as partial labels on the underside.

Beatrice is the subject of the famous Italian poets unrealized love Dante who was part of the upper classes in Florence during the 13th century was in love with Beatrice Portinari. Both were separately betrothed to others from a young age and Beatrice died within 3 years or her marriage at the age of 24 at the heartbreak of Dante.

CONDITION

In good condition with signs of use commensurate with age with slight wear to the polychromatic paint in places (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
