Antique Staffordshire Male Highlander Figure with Lamb

  • $ 30000

Antique English Staffordshire pottery figurine circa 1850's. Typical period style of popular subject matter of a highlander shepherd. The kilted male figure holds a homely ring of roses over a lamb. The Scottish highland lifestyle was deemed healthy and romantic during the 1850's as Queen Victoria herself popularized it( vacationing in Balmoral). The court dictated what was popular among the aristocracy and burgeoning middle class during the Victorian period. These mantle or fireplace pottery statues signified middle class wealth even for those that could not afford it from the Staffordshire factory.

Unsigned as was common in Staffordshire pottery

This would make a great birthday for any ceramic antiques expert or as an amazing addition to your unique home decor.
