Vintage 1930s French signed bronze bust by Caroline Alma Goodman (1875-1945). Vintage bronze art sculpture of a distinguished looking older gentleman. Beautifully cast with a rough textured movement throughout with fine delicate touches to highlight his long strong nose, cheekbones and eye sockets. The face is intelligent, wise and his expression is alert and inquisitive. This sculpture is signed and dated by the late blooming American sculptress Caroline Alma Goodman Lloyd (1875 - 1945). The piece was cast in the Valsuani foundry in Paris in 1934 using the lost wax (cire perdue) casting technique.

Caroline Goodman was born in Fort Wayne Indiana in 1875 and educated at the Convent of Notre Dame in Milwaukee. After her marriage to attorney Warren E. Lloyd in 1898, she settled in Los Angeles and raised a family. When she was in her fifties she pursued a sculpting career. After studying sculpture under Robert Vlerick in Paris she returned to Los Angeles where she remained active in the local art scene until her death on Dec. 30, 1945. Her oeuvre includes portrait busts and statues. Exh: Calif. MEASUREMENTS:

Sculpture measures 14.5" tall (21" tall on base) by 10" wide by 7" deep and weighs 42lb 9oz

CONDITION

In generally good condition considering age and use. The base has some scratching and marks. This would probably benefit from being remounted on a marble base (please see all photographs as they form part of the listing description).
