Vintage Original Lino Cut Abstract Print Signed Peri Fleischmann Ltd Ed 5/20

  • $ 45000

Vintage color reduction lino cut abstract print. Number 5 of a small edition number of 20 by Peri Fleischmann this abstract lino cut depicts a troupe of trapeze artists resting on the wires. One of the female forms appears to have a bird on her shoulder. The colors prevalent in this print are blues, apricot, salmon pink, aquamarine and a light maroon. They are muted tones which work well in defining the muscle. This piece was previously owned by a music producer. Peri Fleischmann was an abstract artist from Los Angeles who has contributed to the fairfax murals in Los Angeles and was a student of Hans Hoffman. This piece of art is believed to date to the 1970's or 1980's.

Color reduction lino cut process begins with carving a design into a new lino block and printing the first color on each sheet of paper in the edition. Then the printmaker carves more of the same block away and proceeds to print the second color. The process of carving and printing continues for each additional color until the final layer is printed. Typically, one prints from lightest to darkest color. After completion of the print, another edition can never be made because the block has been carved away during the creation process.
