19th Century Architectural Wooden Carved Monkeys

  • $ 13500

Antique architectural salvage German oak wood carvings. These late Gothic 19th C architectural antiques were most likely part of a larger piece of furniture (perhaps a fireplace plinth, banister or a dresser). One of the wooden carved monkeys is holding a bunch of bananas and the other perhaps an apple.

Even though these wood carvings are quite primitively carved they exude great skill and detail. These architectural antiques are indicative of the early Gothic revival which occurred from the 1740's until the mid Victorian era when the exploration into African decor was an exotic sign of opulence in carving on furniture.

These would make a stunning pair of bookends in any gothic library, living room or bedroom or simply to be displayed as the architectural salvage they are.
