Antique Jacobs Ladder Jar Aquamarine Glass - 18th/19th C

  • $ 65000

Antique scientific medical Jacobs Ladder jar. Vintage ribbed thick aquamarine glass jar with protruding brass rods used in the storage of static electricity. This primitive scientific instrument may have been used as a capacitor in early experiments, it is also known as a high voltage traveling arc. This scientific antique device comprises of a heavy ribbed glass body which splays out at the top and sits on a round wooden base. There are two brass terminals on the outside of the wooden plinth which are sealed in a resin like material internally. These I believe are the contacts for the two internal brass conducting rods.

Although I cannot find any exact scientific item like this it most closely resembles the features of a Jacobs Ladder. I acquired this from the estate of a prolific medical collector who specialized in 18th and 19th century scientific instruments.

This antique glass medical jar would make a great addition to your primitive or scientific home decor. This would make a great gift for a birthday, store decor or a housewarming gift.
