Antique British Georgian sterling silver gravy boat jug. Made during the reign of George III in 1763 this highly stylized bulbous shaped gravy boat sits on three hoof footed pads and is decorated in repousse with floral motifs throughout. A scallop shaped cartouche is emblazoned with an armorial crest of a lady which represents the Parr family as denoted underneath.

The maidenhead had long been associated with the Parr family badge/arms. Previous to her marriage, the Parr family assumed as one of their badges derived, from the family of Ros of Kendal, the device of a maiden's head couped below the breast vested in ermine and gold; her hair of the last, or; and her head encircled with a wreath of red and white roses. The maidens can be found on the walls of the Parr Chapel in Kendal Parish Church. The crown above her head denotes that this was issued for a descendant of Katherine Parrs family who was the sixth wife of Henry VIII.
