Vintage Sterling Silver Clad Shell Open Salt Cellars

  • $ 55000

Late 20th century set of six salt cellars or dips. Each one is silver clad and styled as a snail shell situated atop a sterling pedestal. Each piece is marked ''925'' for sterling silver. The bowl is silver clad with a continuos line of silver enveloping the side culminating to a highly stylized point which almost gives them the appearance of birds. Highly polished in an unusual form these salt cellars would grace any table with a touch of panache. Not only are they aesthetically beautiful but completely functional for their design. In olden days the idea of individual salt cellars at a table intimated a persons wealth and status when salt was a coveted commodity.

A perfect addition to your vintage shabby chic home decor or a fabulous gift idea for the discerning diner.
