Antique Knights of Father Mathew Ribbon and Medal
Antique temperance movement medal, ribbon and bars. Antique religious medal for the Knights of Father Mathews delegate at the 21st supreme session council in St Louis Missouri during October 1904. The medal portrays the bust of Father Theobald Mathew who founded this temperance order for the abstinence of alcohol in Ireland in the early 19th century.
After a successful visit to the United States in 1849 his society gained a substantial following, gaining exponentially in the wake of the civil war.
