Vintage Bronze Lion Sculpture by John Hontas ~ 1/24
This stunning lion bronze sculpture is the original casting of a limited number of 24 by Los Angeles sculptor John Hontas. The sleeping lion bronze statue is reminiscent of the famous Lion of Lucerne designed by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, and finally hewn in 1820–21 by Lukas Ahorn.
Tragic and beautiful this bronze sculpture was sculpted in 1984 at the height of John Hontas career. He is more famously known as the sculptor of the USA equestrian 1984 Olympic commemorative bronze statue and president of the artists of the southwest. He is still alive, in his 80's and still a resident of Los Angeles.
This is a collectible objet d'art for both its aesthetic beauty and as a solid piece of investment art. Being the original of 24 also adds to its appeal as an investment piece.
**Please note the cost is for the lion only and does not include the marble base which would be cost prohibitive to ship**
