Rare Original 1930s Frank Tenney Johnson Photograph
Stunning and incredibly rare original 1930s framed hand tinted photograph on stock paper of Californian western artist Frank Tenney Johnson. This vintage photo was acquired from one of the original Frank Tenney Johnson estate trustees around 30 years ago along with several other personal effects which will be listed accordingly. This was taken in the 1930's when he along with several other famous artists who congregated in Alhambra would frequent the visitadores rancheros in the Sutter creek, Santa Barbara region.
An amazing photograph of incredible historic importance, the owner was also a prominent art collector in Los Angeles. Frank Tenney Johnson was a painter of the Old American West, and he popularized a style of painting cowboys which became known as "The Johnson Moonlight Technique". He died in Alhambra/Pasadena in 1939.
This would make a great collectable of a prominent and important early 20th century western artist or as a rare early stock photograph.
The photograph measures 15.25" tall by 12.25" wide.
