Vintage Oil on Canvas Portrait Painting by Van de Witt Copeland of Von Billow
Vintage realism art oil painting of an elegant lady. This oil on canvas portrait painting is framed in an ornate gold gesso frame. The back of the canvas has 2 inscriptions, (collection of Eric.M von Billow) on the bottom and (Van de Copeland) on the top. The frame and oil painting do not seem to have originated together but they came to me that way and actually suit well. It is also signed with the artists initials on the front right bottom of the canvas VDC.A painter and commercial artist, Van De Witt Copeland (1895-1957).
Van De Witt Copeland was born in Kentucky and settled in Los Angeles in 1918. He became good friends with Thomas Moran, noted western painter, and like Moran, made numerous trips to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Copeland's first Grand Canyon trip was 1920.
This oil on canvas [portrait painting is a great example of realism painting and a beautiful piece for your vintage decor home.
Painting in the frame measures 24" tall by 19.5" wide by 3" thick. Actual canvas painting measures 14" tall by 12" wide.
