Vintage 1920s Signed Photograph of Frank Tenney Johnson to Samuel T. Shaw

Stunning and incredibly rare original signed black and white vintage photo of Frank Tenney Johnson dressed in a suit taken by by R H Stone, Huntington Park during the 1920's. The signed photograph is matt and has the words R H Stone, Huntington Park embossed at the bottom right hand corner.

This was acquired by one of the original estate trustees from Frank Tenney Johnsons nephew around 30 years ago along with several other personal effects which will be listed accordingly. 

The bottom right hand corner of the photograph is signed by Frank Tenney Johnson with the message: 
To Sam ShawFrank Tenney Johnsonmost likely in thanks for his introduction to the Salmagundi club in New York.

Samuel T. Shaw was a businessman, hotel proprietor (Grand Union Hotel), collector and patron of American Art. He was a member of the Society of American Artists, and the National Academy of Design, Lotos, Union League, National Art (Vice president and served on the board of trustees) and Salmagundi Clubs (awarded cash prizes for the best picture at the annual exhibitions).

An amazing vintage photo of incredible historic importance, the owner was also prominent art collector in Los Angeles. Frank Tenney Johnson was a painter of the Old American West, and he popularized a style of painting cowboys which became known as "The Johnson Moonlight Technique". He died in Pasadena in 1939.R H Stone was a photographer in LA in the 1920's and 1930's, many of his photos were of a scenic nature.   


The photograph measures 10" tall by 8" wide
