DESCRIPTION
Antique black forest wood carving panel. Dating to the 1920's period this substantial wood carving art panel depicts a soldier on guard at a doorway holding up a lamp whilst leaning against his sword. His slightly casual stance suggests perhaps he is a little inebriated. The detail in the carving is exceptional which intensifies the 3 dimensional depth of the carving. The wood panel is thick which allows the viewer to truly appreciate carvers skill in this sculpture type work. The period suggested is the 17th century due to the style of building and his landknecht garb clothing. This would be suitable as a stand alone piece of art or as a central focal panel in a larger piece of furniture.
