Antique 18th Century Religious Santos Statue Figurine

  • $ 80000

Antique 18th century chryselephantine Santos religious statues made from wood and bone. The santos figure is motioning outward with his right hand whilst carrying a brass staff in his left hand. The main body of the religious statue is constructed from wood with gold leaf painted on his cassock, as well as the sleeves, cowl and bottom of his chasuble. He is missing his zucchetto as there is a place for it on the top of his head. His head and hands appear to be carved from polished bone or other material to a high sheen in great detail, especially his beard and hair. This was acquired from the collection of a renowned patron of Santos figurines.
