Antique Edwardian Art Deco Sterling Silver Lorgnette Opera Glasses

  • $ 18000

Antique art nouveau sterling silver lorgnettes and chain. Opera Glasses which fold for the more discerning ladies were more commonly termed as lorgnettes. These folding lorgnettes collapse via a spring and snap shut in place tightly via a notch in the silver handled case. Superbly designed with typical Edwardian fret work on the handle frame and machine cut chevrons on the eyepiece rims. The tightly wound chain is another facet of this period made around 1910.

Marked for sterling on the inside of the bridge frame this American piece of silver is manufactured for a spectacle company known as T & R which are marked on the spectacle frames. The chain also tests for sterling silver (not marked) but the clasp is marked to denote its silver content.

Marked in bridge "Sterling T & R"
Clasp marked "sterling"

A fabulous addition to your library decor, early holiday gift or a special birthday gift for the opera enthusiast.
