Antique Oil on Paper La Danza Pompeii Dancing Maenad 18th/19th Century

  • $ 80000

Oil on paper in a japanned lacquer background which was popular in the 18th century. Reminiscent of the Herculanean and Pompeiian fresco maenads. This dancing Maenad is whimsical and delightful in her movement and expression which intimates her Roman origin in the classics. An annotation on the back suggests she is after Giovanni Battista Piranesi and another note has the name Roberto Liberty (perhaps the previous owner). Date unknown but suggested late 18th or early 19th century.

Unsigned

These would make a great housewarming gift, wedding present or great addition to any art collection.
