Antique Original Augustus Edwin John Signed Etching

Vintage signed Augustus Edwin John (1878-1961) etching of Charles Felix Slade wearing a wide-brimmed hat. The piece is framed and matted together with a handwritten letter by the artist with his autographed signature and date of 1910. This etching of Charles Felix Slade may be one of his Provençal studies works by Augustus John, November-December 1910 which was displayed in the Chenil Gallery in London in December 1910.

This is a drypoint etching on paper under glass. The letter is as follows:

Dear Mr Hind

In answer to your letter of yesterday I suppose the fact if a good many of my provence items being sold will be no obstacle to your reproducing a few. Better ask Chenil. As for me I consent. I await in a state of almost intolerable anxiety to know whats the matter with Van Gogh and me. Esq. Augustus John. Glad the things interest you.

MEASUREMENTS:

Framed art measures 19" tall by 9.75" wide. Plate measures 4" by 3" and the item weighs 2 lb 7 oz.

CONDITION

Visually this drawing is in generally good condition. There is some toning to the paper with heavier toning along the edges. The letter has some toning, scattered foxing and a folding crease across the center.
