Antique Victorian Oak Silverware Chest

  • $ 32500

Antique english oak silverware chest. Locking oak flatware caddy dating to the late Victorian, early Edwardian period consists of 2 pullout drawers and a hinged top compartment. Made originally for a 12 place cutlery setting, it still retains some of the internal labels along with the green baize lining.

The locking mechanism requires the top hinged compartment to be raised to access the internal drawers as the decorative columns on the side fix into place via hinges. A very innovative piece of decorative safety for the silver ware drawer. An item like this was only to be found in the most prestigious of wealthy households at the turn of the last century.
