Original 1966 Billboard Series Oil Painting by Gene Gill

  • $ 97500

Original large oil and acrylic on canvas advertising art work by Gene Gill. Painted in 1966 this advertising art was part of Gills "Billboard"series and titled" Spic & Span does the job". Depicting a man in a bath relaxing, the real star is the super clean green tiled background thanks to the power of Spic & Span box on the bottom left. The towel that hangs over the edge of the bath is an actual green towel which is attached through the canvas from the back. A great early original example of an innovative California artist, which still retains its original art exhibition label on the reverse.

Signed on the canvas: G Gill 1966
Label on the reverse: Entry information to an art show

Gene Gill was born in Memphis, Tennessee and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The Chouinard Art Institute (now called The California Institute of the Arts).

He has exhibited widely in the Los Angeles area since 1970, in group shows as well as in one-man exhibitions. His paintings and graphics are included in the permanent collections of The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Palm Springs Desert Museum, Container Corporation of America, Atlantic Richfield Corporation, The Northrop Corporation, Home Savings, and The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

This would make a great addition to any vintage art or advertising collection. This would make a great early birthday or Fathers day gift.
