Victorian German Heavy Metal Printing Copier

  • $ 22500

Rare antique Victorian German book letter press copier. Heavy pressed steel in construction this antique press was used in correspondences in order to duplicate letters. A freshly written letter or receipt would have been placed between two sheets in the book, pressed tightly via the locking mechanism on the frame and a copy would have been transferred onto the page. This is in all essence a very early form of photocopying, albeit a primitive one.

Made by the Soenneckens Kopier Pressen company in Germany around 1900 this contains its original ledger which is mostly in German with a few smudged correspondence in English. This was located in a cave in Tahiti by the previous owners grandfather who was the captain of a ship at the turn of the last century. This is a great interesting piece even without the story and any German readers will be able to decipher the information in the book.

Complete with original copy book which has copies up to page 313 and then blank to the last page 965 this also retains its original label on the inside.
