Vintage African carved wooden and beaded mask. this large interesting mask comprises of a mans face surrounded by 17 crocodile effigies (8 on top and 9 below). The status of the crocodiles represents protection or strength and the large number of them may afford that to the wearer of such a mask. Unfortunately I cannot determine where this mask was made or date it . The previous owner had travelled extensively during the 1920's to the 1970's and acquired a large collection of antiques as expected from a renowned Los Angeles philanthropist.

Mask measures 31.5" tall by 5.25 deep by 15" wide and weighs 10lb 5oz.
