Vintage Japanese Shakudo Meiji Era Page Turner

Vintage Japanese Shakudo letter opener made from gilt plated copper. Late Meiji period in date (1868 -1912) this beautifully ornate letter opener was crafted with great skill and detail. The handle is ornately decorated with courting pheasants in forested undergrowth underneath Mount Fuji . Certain details on the birds are highlighted in silver and copper, the albino pheasant which is representative of the imperial court. The blade depicts bamboo on one side and foliage on the other.

Pheasants were a sign of nationalism within Japanese and Shinto culture. This would make a fabulous birthday gift, housewarming gift holiday gift or for any Japanese metal enthusiasts.

MEASUREMENTS

Opener measures: 10" long by 1 wide and weighs 3oz.
