Antique 1886 Model Boston Ship New England Shadow Box Model
Antique three mast model full rigged clipper ship from Boston. This full rigged clipper model in its original case dates from October 10th 1886 as signed by the maker on the inside bottom tray. I cannot fathom the name of the ship which is painted on the stern along with the harbor she sailed out of Boston. The inside of the base has been painted to a high sheen green which intimates the sea. The ship is partially submerged in the sea to give the effect of full motion. The glass is original as attested by the bubbles, waves and inclusions when it was made.
The bottom inside of the case has some writing in pencil which looks like “Hampson” and “October 10th 1886”. There is also some writing on the underside of the wooden sea base but it is difficult to decipher (the year 1887).
A fabulous addition to your Victorian model ship collection. This would make a great addition to any Victorian model ship collection or display in a nautical themed bar.
The cased model measures 18.25" long by 14.25" tall by 9" deep and weighs 10 lbs 14oz.
This ship is in good condition with some signs of use commensurate with age and perhaps a repair on the front mast (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
