Antique 19th C Large Bronze Art Sculpture Satyr With Cymbals Duchemin Grand Tour
DESCRIPTION
Antique mid-late 19th century Grand Tour Classical bronze sculpture of a dancing Satyr or faun with cymbals. Sculpted by Isaak DuChemin this was sculpted in bronze from the original marble figure in the Tribuna gallery in the Uffizi, Florence by Massimiliano Soldani (Italian, 1656-1740),
This dancing faun rests one foot on a set of bellows whilst holding cymbals in his hands. He stands near the stump of a tree as he whimsically dances in the forest of delight in all his naked splendor. His muscular frame with his thick curly hair which hides his horns and pointed ears has an Adonis like countenance to it.
This would be a great addition to any bronze , classical sculpture or Roman collection for a desk or a library.
