Antique Gold Gilt Brass Scimitar Letter Opener 1899 Prince Of Wales Stakes Union
DESCRIPTION
Antique gold gilt over brass letter opener in the shape of a scimitar sword. Stamped for a date of 1899 this may have been a consolation or participation prize presented to the runners in the Prince of Wales stakes horse race in 1899. Superbly cast it is emblazoned with horse racing scenes on the tips of either side and the handle is in the shape of a horse.
Stamped : UNION. / PRINCE OF WALES -STAKES. / HERZOG V. RATIBOR-RENNEN
Reverse stamped : 7.2.1899
This would suit any desk set display or horse racing collection. A great housewarming or early holiday gift idea.
MEASUREMENTS
Letter opener measures 12" long by 2.75" wide by 0.5" thick and weighs almost 10oz.
