Antique Spelter French Sculpture August Moreau Boy Fishing

  • $ 16000

Antique spelter metal sculpture of a boy fishing in a bucket. This sculpture was originally cast by August Moreau , boy fishing in a wooden barrel. Many Moreau pieces were cast in spelter as the family were in the production business. This was continued by the sons of Auguste and Hippolyte . I believe this to be a period in house casting manufactured at the time in the late 19th century before the L & F trademark was found on the spelter pieces, this piece being signed by Auguste alone. The paint has faded and chipped in places and it was constructed in two parts as attested to the movement of the boy on top of the tree stump. A great addition to any French or figurative art collection which would grace any collection.

Signed on the reverse : August Moreau

A great addition to your eclectic home decor. This would make a great unique gift for a birthday or house warming gift.
