Japanese Boxwood Netsuke Elephant Carved Figurine 2" Statue
Antique Japanese carved boxwood or cherry katabori netsuke. Exquisitely carved miniature wooden elephant facing the reverse way in a seated position which was suspended on a Samurai belt. This late Edo or early Meiji period wooden netsuke is unusual in its subject matter as the elephant is in a seated position with his head turned around 180 degrees. This was recently acquired from a renowned collection of small Asian bronze, wood and amber figurines in the Los Angeles area.
A perfect addition to your Japanese home decor or a fabulous gift idea for any Asian wooden sculpture collection.
This wooden netsuke measures 2" long by 1" wide by 2" tall and weighs 1.0oz.
This netsuke is in good condition considering age and use with no apparent damage - please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description.
