Orig Spanish American War Remington Bandana Instructional Military Scarf 1880s

  • $ 39500

DESCRIPTION

Original instructional bandana issued to Spanish soldiers for instructions on proper use of the 1871 Remington rifle. The need to train soldiers in the use of modern breech-loading rifles led to the creation of a type of small garment that illustrated the correct way to dismantle and reassemble a Remington rifle due to the high number of illiteracy among common soldiers. In addition to fulfilling the functions of a backpack (coverage, protection from sun, dust, sand, etc.), served as an innovative military handkerchief.

The origin of these garments associated with the best rifles manufactured in the second half of the 19th century was first noted among French soldiers during the 1870s. This particular one is Spanish issued around 1886 prior to the Spanish American war of 1898.

A great addition to your eclectic home decor or military collection. This would make a great unique birthday gift or housewarming gift.
