Antique Warriors Bow ~ Papua New Guinea
Original antique Papua New Guinea tribal black palm bow. Original warriors bow as used by the head hunting tribes of the Highlands of Papua New Guinea this rare and phenomenal piece still retains some of its original blood and ash decor along with remnants of its bamboo string.
This was part of a collection which was acquired in New Guinea from natives in the 1970's by the previous owner where all of the items dated to the first quarter of the 20th century and before.
This was part of a collection from the estate of Dr Dan Shaw, CA.
Dan Shaw, an American missionary-linguist-anthropologist who lived with the Samo people from 1970 until 1982, learned their language and did translation work. Dan was initiated as a Samo brother in 1973.
