1930's Nina Crumrine Alaskan Oil Painting - 20 x 16
Vintage Nina Crumrine (1889 - 1959, Ketchikan, Alaska) oil on canvas seascape. This 1931 oil painting depicts an Alaskan harbor scene at dusk. Entitled "Ketchikan Waterfront" it depicts mainly the reflective water in the foreground bisecting the painting horizontally from a moody background sky with the waterfront buildings. The color use is quite muted but effective in that the red dusk sky is encompassed by cumuli stratus clouds and reflected subtly in very pale tones on the body of water. This lends a realistic shimmering atmosphere to the canvas as if viewed from a boat on the water.
Nina Crumrine was an early Alaskan artist whose daughter Josephine was also a successful artist. This was exhibited in 1931 at the Seventeenth Annual Exhibition of Northwest Artists in Seattle, WA.
