Antique 1896 Political USA Shield Illinois Governor John R Tanner Flying Squad
Antique political advertising Temperance campaign shield and cord. Manufactured in 1896 as part of John R Tanners political bid for governor of Illinois. On one side is depicted the stars and stripes with the candidates name, state office and date along with his slogan the "Flying Squadron". This referred to his stance on Temperance. The other side depicts a list of the former governors of Illinois from 1864 upwards. His bid was successful and he became the 21st governor of Illinois.
This would make a great addition to any Victorian, paper or American political collection.
Shield measures 2.25“ long by 2.25“ wide and weighs under 1oz.
In good solid condition with a scuff to one corner. There is wear commensurate with age (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
