Antique 19th C Pottery Wedding Jug
Antique early Arts and Crafts Jugendstil wedding jug. This antique pottery two handled jug was made in the Eastern European area around 1900. this primitive but stylish two handled jug is referred to as a wedding or toasting jug as it was often filled with wine and passed around working class weddings. The beautiful green color has dulled over the years to reveal the typical designs associated with the Austo Hungarian Empire vassal states of the period. The large splayed base is more typical of a ships decanters to ensure it cannot topple over.
This would make a great addition to your eclectic home decor or a fabulous gift for a collector of old pottery.
Jug measures 10.75" wide by 9" deep 9.5" tall and weighs 4lb 12oz
In generally good condition considering age and use. There are some small chips on the pottery which I have photographed, they are mall and do not take away from the beauty of the piece (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
