Antique 19th C Tramp Art Jewelry Box Inlaid Three Tiered Trinket Casket 1880s
Antique three tiered tramp art sweetheart jewelry casket. Dating to the late 19th century this sarcophagus shaped trinket box is intricately inlaid with various shapes and woods. This was most likely made for a sweetheart by her suitor as an example of his ability. The inlay depicts cupid falling which may intimate his affections for the intended recipient of this box. The casket opens both on top and in the middle to reveal velvet compartments. The middle section also has a lift out section which reveals a larger compartment underneath and the handle to the secret drawer on the front. Once this is pulled out the front ledge springs out to reveal a secret compartments for billet douxs or notes of affection.
This would make a great addition to any vintage lady's accessories, Victorian or wooden tramp art collection. This would make a great late Valentines day gift.
Jewelry box measures 11" wide by 15" long by 13" tall and weighs 12 lb.
Box is in good condition with wear and tear associated with age and ready to display or use. There are no working locks and there are two pieces of inlay missing on the leaves. The separation at the front lower part is actually only where the secret drawer opens (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
