Antique Carlton Ware W & R Stoneware Match Holder
Vintage Carlton Ware match holder striker with a coat of arms. Known as blush ware Wiltshaw & Robinson introduced this highly successful range of earthenwares around 1890. The earlier crown mark on the ceramic piece dates this piece to between 1889 and 1926. Beautifully adorned with a coat of arms of what may be a reference to Northern Ireland with the red cross on the yellow background. The matches are stored in the center and struck on the rough edged side of the ceramic body.
Marked on base: W&R Stoke on Trent, Carlton Ware
Marked on Face: Black border shield with 3 red chevrons on the sinister side and a red cross on the dexter side both on yellow backgrounds
This would suit any living room or smoking parlor, be used on a dining room table as a toothpick or candle holder when entertaining. A great housewarming or early holiday gift idea.
MEASUREMENTS
Match Holder measures 3“ diameter by 2.25" tall and weigh 14oz.
CONDITION
This match holder is in good condition. There are some scuffs on the outside and the stoneware is somewhat faded in places (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
