Antique Civil War Era US Grant Thermoplastic Presidential Token Leather Case
DESCRIPTION
Antique civil war era Ulysses Grant presidential thermoplastic campaign token. Enclosed in its original leather daguerrotype case this token which is made from thermoplastic (sometimes misdescribed as gutta percha) in a high relief style on both sides. The obverse side depicts a bust of General U S Grant along with his name encapsulated inside a raised edge. The reverse side has the inscription " The will of the people is the law of the land". The token is suspended in its own central section which meant it could be displayed on a table with each side being viewed. This piece was manufactured prior to 1869 when he then became the 18th president of the United States.
This would make a great addition to any Victorian, Presidential, Civil War or American military collection.
MEASUREMENTS
Cased presidential token measures 3“ long by 2.5“ wide by 0.75" deep and weighs just over 1oz.
CONDITION
In good solid condition with an old repair to the spine. The original securing hooks are missing on the outside of the case and theres is wear commensurate with age (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
