Antique Original French Louis XVI Fire Screen
Antique French Louis XVI gilt wood fire screen with embroidery on silk. Ornately carved with rich laurel decor and gilt covered gesso this late 18th century piece is embroidered with long and short silk shading with couched metal work. This was the height of fashion at the time and would have been a practical item in a high end property at the time of the French revolution. This was formerly in the possession of the Lenore Gant Chandler trust until recently.
A fabulous addition to your Victorian home decor or the perfect gift for someone who truly appreciates exquisite antique embroidery or the original shabby chic French style.
Frame measures 40.5" tall by 24" wide by 13" deep.
In good condition considering age and use. The silk backing on the reverse of the embroidery has been lost over time. There is some chipping to the gold gilding (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
