Antique Set Of 3 Japanese Carved Wooden Monkeys 1920s Showa Period Sculptures
DESCRIPTION
Vintage set of three wooden sculptures of a monkeys eating and sitting in a group. Depicting a long haired primate sitting down in a huddled position for warmth. The inquisitive turn on the monkeys head reveal his intellect as he investigates the lion head design on the end of the netsuke. The level of detail on the animals fur and facial expression is exquisite and is continued throughout all sides of the piece. Not sure when this piece dates to exactly but it is early Showa period or possibly late Meiji period.
A great addition to your vintage Japanese collection, animal or monkey collection or home decor.
MEASUREMENTS
Vintage wooden monkeys measures 10" tall by 6" wide by 8.5" deep, 8" tall by 5" wide by 8.25" deep, 6.5" tall by 4" wide by 6" deep and together weigh 6lb 1oz.
CONDITION
These vintage sculptures are in good condition with signs of use commensurate with age and some digits missing on two of them (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
