Antique Victorian Brass String Holder & Dispenser
Antique Victorian brass string holder. This ornately decorated string dispenser is typical of those used in department stores in the late 19th century. This art nouveau style holder retains a ball of string inside and dispenses it from a small aperture in the top. Heavily decorated with nouveau motifs such as acanthus swirls and foliage, it separates in the middle for refilling. It is marked on the inside with the manufacturers make of a crescent moon pierced with an room in a diamond shaped lozenge. It may be German, British or French in origin given the mark and the decor.
Beautifully engraved and a solid study piece this would make a great addition to any antique string holder collection or a fabulous Victorian office desk accessory. This practical piece would make a great birthday or Christmas gift.
String holder measures 3" tall by 3" diameter and weighs 1lb 1oz.
In good usable condition with signs of use commensurate with age (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
