Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Lorgnette Opera Glasses
Antique art nouveau sterling silver lorgnettes and chain. Opera Glasses which fold for the more discerning ladies were more commonly termed as lorgnettes. These folding lorgnettes collapse via a spring and snap shut in place tightly within the safety of the silver handled case. Superbly designed with typical art nouveau floral style swirling down the handle in a leaflike helix.
Marked for sterling on the inside this American piece of silver is manufactured for a spectacle company known as Harlequin which are marked on the spectacle frames. The heavy chain also tests for sterling silver (not marked) but the clasp is marked to denote its silver content.
