Marzi & Remy Hunting Scene Majolica Ironstone Humidor
Vintage German majolica ironstone tobacco jar. Decorated in high relief this majolica tobacco jar depicts a medieval style hunting scene consisting of hawkers, bears, lions, deer and hunting dogs. Manufactured by Marzi & Remy the trapezoidal (no text) symbol is an impressed stylized potter's wheel mark used from the late 1870's until the early 1960's. I believe this piece to date prior to the 1890 McKinley Tariff as there are no export marks but it also may have been made for the domestic German market.
Marked on base: 1735, 3/4L, 20, trapezoid stamp
