Max Blondat Bronze Sculpture WW1 French Soldier Le Pinard Signed Valsuani France
DESCRIPTION
Vintage heavy bronze WW1 French soldier sculpture by Max Blondat (1872-1925). Standing slightly stooped upright in a leaden pose this bronze figure displays all the weariness of war. Title " Le Pinard", this was the essential wine carrier for the troops who being an old man was unfit for combat conditions but still wanted to serve for his country. Even though he looks bedraggled, he has a contented elegant countenance which is unfazed by his present conditions, perhaps because he brings the well received respite of wine to the front line battle weary troops. Signed on the bronze base this striking sculpture is unmounted an dates to just after WW1.
Signed on base: Max Blondat Valsuani Foundry pastille
This is an amazing piece of bronze sculpture which would grace any military or French bronze collection with its presence.
