Signed Bronze Male Bust Sculpture by Nadia Scarpitta
Rare vintage bronze head of a man Nadia Scarpitta (1897-1997). Signed by the sculptress Nadia Scarpitta, the wife of famous Italian sculptor Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta and mother of American sculptor Salvatore Scarpitta. This patinated bronze sculpture was cast in fine detail . It sits atop a square mottled marble base which is attached via a single bolt. Not sure who the subject is but he is a man in his mid to late 40's in healthy condition. This was acquired at an estate in the Los Feliz hills of Los Angeles recently where it had been in their possession since the 1970's but I cannot date the actual sculpture.
Nadia Scarpitta was born Nadia Yarotsky in Kovel, Ukraine in 1897, was married to Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta and was a noted and talented sculptress in her own right. Her grand daughter has confirmed that this is an original piece by her grandmother.
Signed: Nadia Scarpitta
