Two Vintage WW2 Leather Ammunition Shell Carrier British Umbrella Cane Bucket

DESCRIPTION

Vintage pair of leather ammunition carriers from the early 20th century. Leather bound elongated bucket lined internally with canvas this piece was used by the British military to carry shells, cannon ball or cordite around a battery. These buckets retain their carrying handle at the top but the lid also made from leather is missing. These were made for the Navy prior and during the second world war by Barrow, Hepburn & Gale of Bermondsey, London. The Royal British coat of arms is still evident on the front. The 'N' indicates Navy and the "broad arrow" mark was used to indicate they were the property of the Board of Ordnance or Government department.
