DESCRIPTION

Vintage pair of decorative bookends. Unique pair of bronze clad plaster bookends of Beatrice made by the Armor Bronze Co. Each Beatrice retains its original polychrome paint. These were most likely originally paired with their male counterparts, Dante manufactured by the same company. Dating to the circa 1920's.

Beatrice is the subject of the famous Italian poets unrealized love Dante who was part of the upper classes in Florence during the 13th century was in love with Beatrice Portinari. Both were separately betrothed to others from a young age and Beatrice died within 3 years or her marriage at the age of 24 at the heartbreak of Dante.
