Vintage 1930s WPA Style Oil Painting of Country Landscape Working Men Scene
Vintage 1930s WPA style oil painting on board. Country landscape oil painting of men repairing a wooden fence. Dressed in appropriate attire for the period this classic working scene was a popular subject during the depression era. Depicting labor intensive jobs which balance beautifully with the muted tones of the idyllic countryside suggest serenity in the actual task of building the fence. The three figures in the foreground along with their tools suggests a primitive task of building a border to encase the wide open countryside in the background. This rural display
of industry was a stark contrast to the industrialization occurring concurrently in cities, this ironically being the first stages of taming the wild expanses of what an idyllic America had to offer in a bygone idyllic time.
A fabulous interesting oil painting and the perfect gift for someone who loves WPA style paintings.
