DESCRIPTION

Vintage bronze art sculpture by Myra Nelson (1918-2011). Cast in a high relief this framed sculpture depicts a boy playing a tin whistle with a girl on her knees giving thanks for their safe arrival in New York from Ireland during the 19th C. The depiction of the statue of Liberty which represents freedom is accompanied by the Irish word for freedom "Saoirse". This was a limited edition of 300 produced by the artist in 1976 for the bicentennial of U S Independence. A wonderful and rare sculpture which depicts the plight of a displaced people through tyranny and hardship and their gratefulness for a fresh beginning.
