Vintage Badger Effigy Pot Casas Grandes Mata Ortiz Pottery Jar Polychrome Paint
Vintage 1970s polychrome badger effigy clay pot in the style of Casas Grandes pottery known as Mata Ortiz pottery. Effigy vessels such as this one are typical of effigy vessels from Cochiti Pueblo where animals and birds predominate the style of the culture. This effigy jar was used to store dry foods. The dark residue on the inside is typical of items made in the 1960's and 1970's whereas a prehistoric version of this would have a natural clay color on the inside.
This would make a great addition to your retro home decor, southwestern decor or a wonderful housewarming gift.
Sculpture measures 5" tall by 6.5" wide by 10.5" deep and weighs 1lb 9oz.
In good condition but has some small chips out of the opening of the pot, a small hole on the side and a crack on the base (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
