Vintage Framed Abstract Palette Knife Oil Painting of Mexican Couple by Don Shreves 12 x 9

  • $ 40000

DESCRIPTION

Vintage framed Abstract palette knife oil painting. Depicting and titled on the verso as "Mexican Couple" this palette knife painting was executed by Don Shreves most likely in the 1960's/70's whilst in location in Guadalajara, Mexico. His distinct palette knife style and subject matter in bold colors distinguish his work as suggestive abstract.

Otis Don Shreves (June 15, 1918 - August 28, 1993) was a gifted artist even as a child, attending the Denver Art academy when he was 10, being the youngest student to be admitted at the time. Unfortunately he was paralyzed from the waist down after complications from an operation while he was on military service in his mid 20s, but this did not dampen his ability as a painter or his zest for adventure. From his house in Silverlake, California he painted mainly for his own pleasure, rarely selling paintings, preferring to display them in both art exhibition, competitions and his home but also travelled extensively especially around Mexico which is most often the focus of his work. He was successful in competitions and won many awards throughout his illustrious life.

Signed on the front; Shreves
Marked on back of frame: Mexican Couple, Shreves

A great original abstract oil painting which would make a great entry level addition to any art collection. This would be a great housewarming or early holiday gift idea.
